Russia and Iran to Maintain Cooperation Under New Iranian Government

On Thursday (Jul. 11), during the sidelines of the 10th BRICS Parliamentary Forum in St. Petersburg, Russia’s President met with the Iranian parliament speaker, along with the speakers of both chambers of the Russian parliament. The meeting highlighted Iran’s recent membership in BRICS and acknowledged the late President Raisi, with Vladimir Putin expressing optimism for Iran’s full engagement within the bloc.

Following the recent election of Iran’s new leader after President Raisi’s tragic death in a plane crash, Putin conveyed his condolences and anticipated continued strong bilateral relations. He emphasized the historical development in Russia’s “military-technical cooperation” with Iran under President Raisi.

Iranian parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf emphasized broader cooperation beyond military ties, aiming to enhance regional stability and economic prospects, countering Western unilateral actions. The discussions underscored mutual interests in strengthening bilateral ties across various sectors.

The 10th BRICS Parliamentary Forum concludes on Friday (Jul. 12), concluding a forum marked by diplomatic dialogues and strategic engagements among member nations.
