Sierra Leone Aquatics Team Competes in 2024 Zone II Championships in Ghana
The Sierra Leone Aquatics team is currently competing in the 2024 Africa Aquatics Zone II Junior and Senior Championships, which began on October 7, 2024, at the Borteyman Sports Complex in Ghana.
Reginald Brian Ojukutu Sawyerr, Public Relations Officer for Sierra Leone Aquatics (SLA), emphasized the team’s dedication and efforts to overcome resource limitations, organizing fundraising initiatives to support their international participation. SLA President Mohamed Abdul Turay expressed gratitude for the overwhelming national support, stating that it has motivated the athletes to give their best.
The Sierra Leone delegation includes three swimmers: Peter Josiah Bowie (15), Moses Sahr Yongai (17), and Johnathan Victor Turay, along with their coach.
Originally set to be hosted by Nigeria, Ghana stepped in as host following Nigeria’s withdrawal. The event features 19 countries, including Equatorial Guinea, Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, and others, competing in various events like the 100m and 200m freestyle, 50m backstroke, 400m individual medley, and relays. All events will be direct finals with medals awarded over the three-day competition.
