Sierra Leone Government Introduces Cement Pricing Formula to Stabilize Market

The Government of Sierra Leone, through the Ministry of Trade and Industry, has announced a new cement pricing formula aimed at stabilizing the market following recent price increases. The decision follows extensive consultations with cement importers and manufacturers on March 27, 2025.

Rising global demand for cement, driven by reconstruction efforts in the Middle East, Turkey, and Eastern Europe, has led to higher prices in Sierra Leone. To address public concerns and create transparency in pricing, the government, in collaboration with the Office of the Chief Minister and other relevant agencies, engaged industry stakeholders to establish a structured pricing mechanism.

Under the new pricing formula, cement will be sold at the following rates:

Imported Cement:

  • Wholesale Price: Le 150.00
  • Retail Price: Le 170.00

Locally Produced Cement:

  • Wholesale Price: Le 135.00
  • Retail Price: Le 155.00

The government is also working with transportation bodies to determine fair transport costs for cement in the provinces, with final pricing expected to be announced soon. Officials have pledged periodic reviews of the pricing formula to maintain a balance between consumer affordability and industry sustainability.

This move underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring market stability and preventing excessive price fluctuations that could impact construction and infrastructure development across the country.
