Sierra Leone Hosts RFIR Meeting to Enhance Airspace Safety
The Roberts Flight Information Region (RFIR) launched its two-day Ordinary Technical Committee and Ministerial Council Meeting at Radisson Blu Mammy Yoko Hotel, Freetown. Running until December 5, the event gathers aviation leaders from Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone to advance regional airspace safety and management.
Focus on Progress and Strategy
Julius Denis, Director General of Liberia’s Civil Aviation Authority, highlighted the importance of reviewing 2023-2024 activities and discussing the 2025 draft budget. He noted the RFIR’s strategic goals include modernization, technological upgrades, and alignment with international standards.
Sekou Oumar Thiam, Guinea’s aviation authority head, emphasized collaboration as essential for resolving critical issues, while Sierra Leone’s representative, Musayeroh Barrie, reaffirmed the country’s commitment to RFIR’s mission since 1975.
Commitment to Safety and Excellence
The RFIR announced plans for a dedicated Safety Department and a unified Quality Management System to uphold international safety and operational standards. Resolutions include proactive safety risk management and enhanced data reporting to strengthen cooperation among member states.
