SIERRA LEONE VICE PRESIDENT CONCLUDES HIGH-LEVEL ENGAGEMENT AT HAMBURG SUSTAINABILITY CONFERENCE

Sierra Leone’s Vice President, His Excellency Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh, has concluded a two-day participation at the Hamburg Sustainability Conference (HSC) in Germany, where he joined heads of government, policymakers, development partners, and international experts to discuss global economic, security, and development challenges.

During the conference, Vice President Jalloh participated in two high-level sessions focusing on improving child nutrition during the first 1,000 days of life and examining the global economic implications of the Strait of Hormuz crisis, a key international shipping route whose stability has significant consequences for global energy supplies and trade.

Addressing delegates, the Vice President highlighted the particular vulnerabilities faced by developing and small economies such as Sierra Leone, stressing that external shocks including geopolitical conflicts, disruptions in global supply chains, climate change, and rising food and fuel prices continue to undermine economic stability and development efforts.

He called for more flexible and responsive international financing mechanisms to enable vulnerable countries to better prepare for, withstand, and recover from global crises.

“I leave Hamburg encouraged by the shared commitment to practical solutions and stronger international cooperation,” Dr. Jalloh said at the conclusion of the conference.

He reaffirmed Sierra Leone’s commitment to contributing to international efforts aimed at building a more resilient, inclusive, and equitable global system, particularly for countries in the Global South.

The Hamburg Sustainability Conference brought together political leaders, international financial institutions, civil society organizations, private sector representatives, and development experts to explore practical solutions to global challenges, including sustainable development financing, food security, climate resilience, peace, and economic transformation.

Sierra Leone’s participation comes as the country continues to seek stronger international partnerships to support its national development priorities, including economic diversification, human capital development, climate adaptation, and investment promotion.

Government officials say the Vice President’s engagement reflects Sierra Leone’s continued participation in international policy discussions aimed at strengthening cooperation on sustainable development and improving the country’s access to development financing.

The conference also provided opportunities for bilateral engagements and networking with international partners to explore areas of mutual cooperation in support of Sierra Leone’s long-term development agenda.
