SLFA Official: Sierra Leone Premier League to Create 1,000+ Jobs
The Sierra Leone Premier League is expected to create over 1,000 jobs, boosting the local economy, according to Mohamed Benson Bawoh, Acting Secretary-General of the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA).
At a press conference, Bawoh shared that the league will offer employment opportunities in various sectors, including players, officials, support staff, and vendors. “Over 1,000 people will be employed, contributing to the league’s success and sustainability,” he said.
Bawoh also noted that players from the 18 Premier League clubs will receive salaries, while match officials, including referees and commissioners, will be compensated for their roles. Local vendors selling tickets and food at match venues will also benefit financially.
This season’s league is expected to be highly competitive, with all 18 teams eager to claim the 2024-2025 title. Bawoh also highlighted a key milestone, with the league starting without direct financial support from the SLFA for the first time, showcasing the league’s growing self-sufficiency.
As the 2024-2025 season begins, the SLFA’s focus on job creation and economic impact emphasizes the role of sports in national development.
