UNICEF Donates IEC Materials to Enhance Mpox Awareness in Sierra Leone
The United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) has donated a substantial number of Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials to the National Public Health Agency (NPHA) in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Sanitation (MoH) to strengthen public awareness and prevention efforts against Mpox.
The donation includes 8,821 visually engaging posters detailing Mpox signs and symptoms, A2-sized prevention posters, 7,434 school-targeted posters, 1,900 brochures, and 39 roll-up banners. These materials aim to educate communities and schools on Mpox symptoms, preventive measures, and health guidelines.
During a formal handover ceremony, NPHA Executive Director Prof. Foday Sahr officially received the materials on behalf of the agency. Representatives from the Ministry of Health and Sanitation, NPHA, and UNICEF attended the event. Prof. Sahr commended UNICEF for its support, stressing the importance of equipping the public with essential health information to curb the spread of Mpox.
UNICEF’s Deputy Country Representative, Liv Elin Indreiten, emphasized the significance of accurate and accessible health information in combating Mpox. She reaffirmed UNICEF’s dedication to supporting public health initiatives and bolstering community resilience.
This initiative aligns with ongoing efforts to enhance health education and reinforce disease prevention strategies across Sierra Leone.
