US Congress Approves $480M MCC Grant for Sierra Leone

The United States Congress has reportedly approved the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) $480 million compact grant for Sierra Leone, with the formal signing expected on Friday. The MCC Board reselected Sierra Leone for compact development in December 2023, contingent on meeting conditions related to the 2023 general elections.

While progress has been made, Senators Jim Risch and Chris Coons stressed the importance of continued efforts by Sierra Leone’s government and political leaders to meet eligibility criteria. They emphasized that actions in the coming months will determine whether the U.S. Congress fully approves the MCC Compact.
