Mayor Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr Wins 2024 German Africa Prize
Mayor Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr has been awarded the 2024 German Africa Prize for her remarkable contributions to sustainable urban development and leadership in transforming Freetown.
The German Africa Foundation, which has recognized exceptional achievements across Africa since 1993, selected Mayor Aki-Sawyerr for her efforts in promoting democracy, peace, and human rights.
In response, Mayor Aki-Sawyerr expressed her gratitude, dedicating the award to her team and the people of Freetown, emphasizing their joint commitment to the #TransformFreetown initiative.
The award will be presented by the President of the Bundestag on October 16th in Berlin.
Since taking office, Mayor Aki-Sawyerr has spearheaded initiatives addressing environmental sustainability, urban planning, and social development, making a significant impact on Freetown and beyond.
The German Africa Prize highlights her role in advancing positive change and improving lives across Africa.
