World Vision and Street Child Conducts Training in Pujehun
In a joint effort to strengthen child protection measures in Pujehun District, World Vision International Sierra Leone and Street Child Sierra Leone recently conducted a day-long training session on Friday, May 21, 2024. The event took place at Ndeleh Hall, Growth Center in Pujehun Town, focusing specifically on “System Strengthening for Child Survival – FY 2024 Orientation of Sexual Violence Champions.”
The training session brought together a diverse array of stakeholders, including women’s groups, district councils, police, military, MDAs, CSOs, youth groups, and children representatives. The primary objective was to empower these participants as advocates for child safety, particularly in combatting sexual violence.
Bai J. Conteh, Acting Director of Program Delivery and Head of Advocacy at Street Child Sierra Leone, underscored the critical role of identified “sexual violence champions” in protecting children from such heinous crimes. These champions are pivotal in raising awareness and equipping communities to prevent sexual violence against children.
Madan Florence Sandy, Assistant Director of the Ministry of Gender and Children Affairs in Pujehun district, expressed appreciation to the organizing bodies for their proactive initiative. She emphasized the importance of collaboration among stakeholders to collectively address and mitigate sexual violence targeting children.
The training concluded with a commitment from all participants to apply their newfound knowledge effectively and work together to safeguard children in Pujehun District. This initiative represents a significant advancement in ongoing efforts to create a secure environment for children, free from the threat of sexual violence.
