Calls Grow for CID to Question APC Secretary General Over Alleged Remarks

Calls are mounting for the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to question the National Secretary General of the All People’s Congress (APC), Lansana Dumbuya, following alleged remarks he made during a party gathering at the Atouga Mini Stadium in Freetown.
Mr. Dumbuya is accused by critics and political observers of referring to the sitting President as a “thief” while addressing supporters at the event. The alleged statement has sparked public debate, with some commentators warning that such language could heighten political tension in an already polarized environment.
Civil society actors and political analysts have urged law enforcement authorities to establish the accuracy and context of the reported remarks, stressing that no individual is above the law regardless of political affiliation. They have also emphasized the need for due process and restraint to avoid actions that could further inflame tensions.
“Clarification is important, not only to uphold the rule of law but also to maintain public confidence in democratic governance,” one civil society advocate noted.
However, supporters of the APC Secretary General have dismissed the calls as politically motivated, arguing that the comments were made within a charged political setting and should be viewed as part of robust political discourse. They contend that political speech, even when provocative, is protected under democratic norms and freedom of expression.
As of the time of filing this report, neither the CID nor the APC leadership has issued an official statement confirming whether Mr. Dumbuya will be invited for questioning.
