DPP Explains Delay in Auditor General’s Investigation

At the weekly Ministry of Information and Civil Education’s press conference, Director of Public Prosecution Osman Kanu, Esq., addressed the prolonged investigation into Auditor-General Lara Taylor-Pearce and her Deputy, Tamba Momoh, explaining the reasons behind the delay.
Kanu stated that both officials were suspended due to allegations of misconduct and inadequate professional performance. He highlighted that the tribunal responsible for investigating them comprised highly respected legal practitioners with extensive judicial experience. The prolonged duration of the tribunal’s proceedings, Kanu noted, was primarily due to the “Preliminary objections” raised by lawyers representing the accused.
Furthermore, Kanu clarified that while the tribunal’s findings hold the authority of a high court, it operates as an investigative body rather than a court of law, which inherently involves extensive and protracted inquiries.
