Dr Emmanuel Saffa Abdulai has formally declared his intention to contest for the presidency of Sierra Leone under the banner of the Sierra Leone People’s Party, signalling an early move in what is expected to be a competitive race for the party’s flagbearer position.
Speaking during an appearance on the Epic Morning Show – Impact Makers, Dr Abdulai said his ambition is driven by a longstanding desire to address governance challenges and improve living conditions across the country. “I have always wanted to fix Sierra Leone. I want to be President; I want to be the flagbearer of the SLPP,” he stated.
Dr Abdulai, known for his work in civil society and governance advocacy, framed his bid as part of a broader vision for national transformation, focusing on accountability, institutional reform, and development. His declaration places him among emerging contenders seeking to shape the future leadership of the ruling party.
The announcement has begun to generate debate within political circles, particularly among members and supporters of the SLPP, as attention gradually shifts toward succession dynamics and the party’s internal selection process.
Political analysts say the early declaration could influence internal alignments and intensify discussions on leadership credibility, track record, and policy direction ahead of the next electoral cycle.
The SLPP is yet to open its flagbearer contest officially. Still, Dr Abdulai’s pronouncement marks one of the clearest indications so far of mounting interest in the race to lead both the party and the country.
