“Health Train” Arrives in Moyamba as Health Ministry Evaluates Services

The Ministry of Health’s newly launched “Health Train” has arrived in Moyamba District, marking day three of its assessment tour.
Minister of Health Dr. Austin Demby, alongside top officials from the World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF, UNFPA, and other partners, is evaluating healthcare services and exploring improvements through a life-stages approach.
The team visited Moyamba Government Hospital, where they noted the facility’s extensive services, including mental health care, a dental clinic, nutrition programs, eye care, pediatric services, and a well-stocked pharmacy. WHO Country Representative Dr. George Ameh described it as a “district plus” hospital, while Dr. Demby commended it as a model for national healthcare improvement.
However, construction is underway for a new 100-bed hospital in Moyamba Town, aimed at bolstering healthcare services for over 350,000 residents. The facility is expected to enhance referral services and address the growing medical needs of the district.
