IGP Sellu Inaugurates Police Health Centre in Kono
Inspector General of Police (IGP) William Fayia Sellu on Saturday, March 29, 2025, officially inaugurated a new police health centre in Kono District. The facility aims to provide critical medical services to police officers, their families, and the local community.
Speaking at the unveiling ceremony, IGP Sellu emphasized the importance of accessible healthcare for law enforcement personnel, linking their well-being to effective service delivery. He acknowledged longstanding healthcare challenges within the force and underscored his administration’s efforts to improve conditions. These include the transformation of the Police Hospital in Kingtom into a teaching hospital and a partnership with the Spanish-based Surgeons in Action Foundation, which has facilitated over 700 free surgical procedures for police officers and civilians.
“We remain committed to the welfare of our personnel,” Sellu stated. “The establishment of healthcare facilities in regional headquarters, including Lungi, Mattru, and now Kono, demonstrates our dedication to ensuring medical access for officers and their families.”
Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Augustine Kabia, the Local Unit Commander for Kono, highlighted the urgency of the project. He noted that police officers in the district previously faced severe challenges in accessing adequate healthcare, a situation he also encountered in Mattru Jong, where he initiated a similar facility.
Dignitaries at the event, including Chief Kumasi of Nimikoro Chiefdom, commended IGP Sellu for prioritizing the health of police personnel. The chief also expressed gratitude for Kono natives being recognized in the police force, referencing the appointment of Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) Sahr Yomba Senesi and Director of Operations Dr. John Martin Senesie.
The ceremony concluded with a ribbon-cutting to mark the official opening of the health centre. Following the event, IGP Sellu and his delegation engaged in a town hall meeting with local stakeholders at the Fellie Faboe Hall in Tankoro to discuss further community-police collaboration.
