Peace Talks Held Between Thomas Daddy Brima, Babadi Kamara After Chaotic SLFA Congress

Following a disordered and violent interruption that brought the Sierra Leone Football Association’s (SLFA) Ordinary Congress into disrepute, SLFA President Thomas Daddy Brima and presidential hopeful Babadi Kamara were invited to a peace dialogue aimed at restoring calm and unity within the football family.
President Brima, who is seeking re-election, boycotted the congress citing inadequate security presence at the Radisson Blu venue. He expressed concerns for his safety and deemed the environment unfit for such a significant event. “There was not enough security,” Brima said. “I felt unsafe to proceed with the congress under those conditions.”
According to SLFA statutes, the sitting president is mandated to preside over all congresses unless incapacitated by death or mental health issues. In such cases, the Vice President 1 is required to step in—but only after a 30-day period.
Meanwhile, Babadi Kamara, one of the leading contenders for the presidency, used the peace meeting to emphasize that his desire to lead is not rooted in desperation. “My ambition to lead football is not a do-or-die affair,” Kamara said. “Both myself and Brima share the same goal—to transform Sierra Leonean football.”
Kamara further urged his supporters to remain calm and peaceful, encouraging them to focus on rebranding the sport ahead of the much-anticipated elective congress.
The peace talks have sparked intense speculation among football stakeholders, with many questioning whether the meeting signals a potential deal between the two rivals—possibly involving one stepping down for the other.
As the football community awaits clarity, all eyes remain on the next steps leading to the elective congress that will shape the future of the sport in Sierra Leone.
