Sierra Leone Swimmers Shine at Freetown Aqua Sports Club

The Freetown Aqua Sports Club was abuzz with excitement yesterday as Sierra Leone’s top swimmers battled it out in time trials for the upcoming OWS Championships.
Leading the charge was Musa Baimba Sannoh, who emerged victorious in the grueling 7.5km Open Water Swim (OWS) with a time of 2 hours, 58 minutes, and 47 seconds. Sannoh’s impressive performance cemented his position as a champion and a force to be reckoned with in the national competition.
On the women’s side, Elizabeth Yaba Kamara finished first in the 5km event, covering 4.1km in 1 hour, 58 minutes, and 41 seconds. Her amazing performance is expected to boost the morale of female swimmers nationwide.
A young prodigy from the British International School, year-six student Mohamed Bangura, stole the show. At just 13 years old, Bangura led the group in the 3km OWS time trials after covering 1.6km in 1 hour, 32 minutes, and 12 seconds. His impressive and inspiring start marked his first call-up to the provisional team and his first OWS race attempt.
The Freetown Aqua Sport Club time trial is a clear indication of the bright future of Sierra Leonean swimming. With talented athletes like Sannoh, Kamara, and Bangura emerging, the nation is poised to make a splash on the OWS Championship stage. This event not only serves as a springboard for competitive success but also inspires a new wave of swimmers, particularly young girls and those from diverse backgrounds.
