Sierra Leonean Makeup Artist Mary Yei Yongai Sets Guinness World Record for Most Cosmetic Makeovers in 24 Hours

Guinness World Records has officially recognized Mary Yei Yongai from Sierra Leone as the new record holder for the most cosmetic makeovers completed by a single artist in 24 hours.
The announcement, made on Sunday, March 16, via the organization’s social media platforms, confirmed that Yongai successfully completed 111 cosmetic makeovers, surpassing the previous record of 96 set by Indonesia’s Martha Tilaar in 2005.
Yongai achieved the feat in May 2024, but Sierra Leoneans had to wait months for Guinness World Records to complete the verification process. The confirmation was met with widespread excitement and national pride.
The makeup artist was inspired to attempt the record after seeing Nigerian chef Hilda Baci’s cook-a-thon achievement. To prepare, she practiced extensively, using her friends and family as models. She later conducted a trial run, managing to complete 48 makeovers in eight hours, boosting her confidence for the full 24-hour challenge.
“This was a good start,” Yongai said. “It gave me confidence that I would be able to break the record.”
Beyond personal accomplishment, Yongai took on the challenge to inspire others. “Achieving this record is a dream come true,” she said. “As a young girl, trying to achieve what people think is impossible, I’m super proud of myself.”
Her success has ignited encouragement across Sierra Leone, with many celebrating her determination and perseverance. Yongai’s record-breaking achievement cements her place in history and serves as motivation for aspiring artists and dreamers around the world.
