SLP Launches Tactical Driving Training for UN Drivers

The Sierra Leone Police (SLP), in collaboration with the World Food Program (WFP), has commenced a three-week tactical driving training for United Nations (UN) drivers at the Sierra Leone Peacekeeping and Law Enforcement Academy (SILEA) in Hastings, Freetown.
The program aims to enhance drivers’ skills in defensive and tactical driving, aligning with international UN standards.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Alpha Kamara, Head of Training, welcomed participants and highlighted the importance of inter-agency cooperation in improving operational safety. He assured trainees that the necessary resources and facilities were in place to ensure effective training.
Speaking on behalf of the United Nations Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS), Mr. Mohamed Rogers emphasized the importance of cultural awareness in security operations. WFP representative Madam Fatmata Smith commended the SLP for its support, stating that the training would reinforce essential driving skills and attention to detail.
Assistant Inspector General (AIG) Sahr Yomba Senesie, delivering the keynote address, underscored the significance of defensive driving and vigilance. He urged participants to see the training as a platform for continuous skill development and professional accountability.
“The knowledge and skills you acquire should go beyond vehicle operation. This training should instill confidence, accountability, and professionalism in your service to the community,” AIG Senesie stated.
Following the opening ceremony, Acting Commandant DSP Morality Sesay led trainers and participants to the training arena to commence practical sessions. The initiative reflects Inspector General William Fayia Sellu’s ongoing commitment to strengthening partnerships with UN agencies operating in Sierra Leone.
