Special Line Wins Men’s T20 Premier League Opener

Special Line Cricket Club secured an impressive 8-wicket victory against Gujarat Lions, marking the opening of the Sierra Leone Men’s T20 Cricket Premier League on Sunday, July 7, 2024, at the Kingtom Police Oval. This win underscores Special Line’s determination to retain the title after bolstering their squad, which includes the addition of former Mid-West Cricket Club skipper, Edward George Ngegba.

The league, featuring seven teams, will span two months and include 24 matches. Defending champions Special Line have already demonstrated their formidable zeal, reminding their competitors of their dominance.

In the match against Gujarat, the Lions were restricted to just 42 runs all out in 13.1 overs, leaving their fans in shock. Later in the day, Mid-West faced Asian Lions. The Asian Lions won the toss and elected to bat first, posting 117 runs for the loss of nine wickets in 20 overs. Mid-West were 28 for two in 4.4 overs when rain interrupted, resulting in shared points.

So far, in the two matches, a total of 235 runs have been scored. Fielders have taken 23 wickets while batters have hit 20 fours and three sixes from 255 balls, leading to 58 extras. There have been 171 dot balls and four maiden overs, highlighting the competitive spirit of the league.
