Why Filling the O2 Arena and Winning a Grammy Define Artist Success

Bob Marley and 2Pac were successful musicians who never won a Grammy. Let Sierra Leonean musicians breathe! Sierra Leone, wake up.
Struggling Sierra Leonean artist Emmerson Bockarie, popularly known as Emmerson, is unhappy with the local celebration of international artists for filling venues like the O2 Arena and winning Grammys.
According to Emmerson, people in Sierra Leone don’t support local artists but expect them to win international awards. He expressed frustration over the lack of views, downloads, likes, or shares for their work online, while people are quick to criticize their every step in their music careers.
“Dear Sierra Leonean artists, no one is using these achievements as the sole measure of success,” Emmerson said. “Sometimes, just celebrate people while working and waiting for your time. If you harbor hate towards success, you might never be successful. Don’t compare yourself to Bob Marley and 2Pac; their music is legendary and wasn’t defined by awards.”
