The Bank of Sierra Leone has officially extended the deadline for all Financial Institutions and Fintechs to integrate with the National Switch platform from March 31, 2025, to June 30, 2025.

In a press release issued today, the Bank stated that the three-month extension is aimed at accommodating institutions that were not yet ready to fully transition to the centralized transaction system. All domestic transactions are required to be routed through the National Switch as part of ongoing efforts to enhance interoperability, transparency, and efficiency in the country’s financial ecosystem.

During the extension period, existing bilateral arrangements between financial institutions and fintech companies will remain in effect. However, the Central Bank emphasized that these arrangements will only be permitted up until the new deadline.

“All Financial Institutions and Fintechs that have not yet joined the National Switch are formally instructed to engage with the National Switch Department of the Bank of Sierra Leone to ensure full integration into the system,” the statement read.

The Bank reaffirmed that no further delays are anticipated and expects full compliance from all entities by June 30, 2025.
