Education Ministry Distributes 78,000 Menstrual Hygiene Kits in Five Districts
The Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education, under the leadership of Conrad Sackey, has teamed up with representatives from the Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office (FCDO) and other development partners to initiate the distribution of 78,000 menstrual hygiene kits across several districts in Sierra Leone. This collaborative effort spans Western Rural, Port Loko, Bombali, Bo, and Kailahun districts, aiming to ensure that girls have the necessary support to attend school regularly and confidently, even during their menstrual periods.
In a statement, the Ministry emphasized the importance of this initiative in enhancing girls’ educational outcomes. They highlighted the significant impact menstruation can have on girls’ attendance, learning, and overall confidence. By providing menstrual hygiene kits, the Ministry aims to mitigate these challenges, enabling girls to fully participate in their education without disruption.
